WikiLeaks Founder's Health Deteriorating in Custody

Plight of Julian Assange Compounds Legal Challenges

Medical Assessment Raises Urgent Concerns

A group of over 60 medical doctors have issued a letter to the UK Home Secretary, expressing grave concerns over the rapidly deteriorating health of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. The letter, dated November 22, 2019, warns that Assange's situation is "urgent" and that there is "no time to lose." The assessment is based on witness accounts and highlights the severity of his condition.

Assange, who is currently being held in London's high-security Belmarsh prison, has been involved in a protracted legal battle over extradition to the United States. The legal process has caused significant delays and uncertainty.

"I am deeply concerned about Julian's health," said Nils Melzer, the UN Special Rapporteur on torture. "The medical situation is urgent, and he needs immediate access to appropriate medical treatment."
